Benefits of the Tippmann Flatline Barrel:

  • The curved barrel of the Flatline imparts a backspin on the ball.   This backspin gives your shot a flatter trajectory much like a slider in baseball or a slice in tennis.  This flatter trajectory gives you a longer effective range.  A typical paintball marker shoots just over 100 feet.  A marker with a Flatline at the same angle will give you an extra 100 feet of distance.  This is a new look for the Flatline Barrel series and the shroud integrates perfectly in to the body of your X7 for a seamless look.  This is a great add on accessory for the X7 Phenom.

  • Factory Video: Change the Barrel Adapter
    • This video is slightly older and states that the X7 adapter is installed and the Phenom adpater is included, but as of now (October 2014) the Phenom adapter is installed and the X7 adapter is included as an extra.
    • During design it was noticed that the standard X7 adapter was getting too many ball breaks when used on the Phenom.  For the new Phenom adapter, the barrel sits farther in (closer to the gun) the adapter.  About 0.200".  This way, when the gun is fired and air is released to propel the ball, the ball is actually sitting in the barrel rather than in the adapter.  That slight change eliminated the ball breakge issues.
    • If there is any confusion as to which adapter is which, you can tell by their index marks on the front.  The X7 Phenom Flatline barrel adapter has a "Y" index mark which you use to align the adapter to the top center of the barrel.  The X7 Flatline barrel adapter has a straight line index mark.

Tech Notes and Installation:

  • Two barrel adapters are included with the X7 Flatline.  The adapter is the metal piece that connects the curved barrel to the gun.  The arched barrel is not threaded.  Instead, it slides in to the barrel adapter and is then held in place by a set screw.  With the adapter attached, you can then install the barrel and adapter in to the gun with a quarter turn motion.  The barrel comes with the Phenom adapter already installed.  If you have a regular X7 (non-Phenom) then you'll need to swap the barrel adapters before installing.

Manufacturing:

  • Flatline Barrels are manufactured by Tippmann.  The metal components (the heart of the barrel) are manufactured in Ft. Wayne, IN.  This includes the curved barrel and the barrel adapters.  The plastic shroud is made in China.

5 of 5 Awesome with a little practice. January 20, 2015
Reviewer: Galen from US
I've only gotten to play with a Flatline a few times but when I did it was a lot of fun.  Because of how the ball spins, it will go off course if you're not holding the barrel perfectly straight up and down.  So there is some practice that's needed.  But once I got it dialed in it was great being able to put paint on people at a distance when they couldn't even get to me.  It's also good for distance when you're in the woods with a thick canopy.  Usually to get range you have to tilt up and arc the ball in.  With the flatline you shoot straight and the ball just slides along without the arc.  So under a heavy canopy you really have an advantage.

3 of 5 Distance & accuracy April 6, 2014
Reviewer: George Venetsanos from Athens, Attica Greece
The manufacturer claims a substantial increase in effective distance and during my tests this was proved to be true. Nevertheless accuracy is erratic. It would have been OK if a predictable deviation from the aiming point were to be observed, but this was not the case. The day i performed the test was windy though and this may be the reason for the observed inaccuracy. I will test under normal circumstances and revert.
